Kylie's Wedding 28/08/10

Just recieved these lovely photos from Kylie's wedding at Tamborine Mountain in August.
It was such a beautiful winter wedding in the most beautiful location! Kylie and her bridesmaids were all so lovely, and Leacha and I enjoyed watching a selection of bridal movies while the girls were getting ready!

I also recieved this lovely feedback...

Hi Kate,

Thanks for your lovely job on hair and makeup with Leacha, many people were complimenting us on how beautiful we all looked!

Thanks
Kylie

IMATS 2010 Part 2

So here are pictures of some of the new additions to my kit!

Palettes from MAC and Crown

New brush belt and lots of new brushes!

New foundation range (LOVE this! Will review on it soon)

Fix+ from MAC (Smells delish!)

Lots of eyelashes for your next makeup application!

IMATS 2010 Part 1

For those of you who haven't already heard, I went to Sydney on the weekend for the International Makeup Artist Trade Show (IMATS). I had a great time and got to see lots of awesome products (and buy them too!) I really enjoyed watching the special FX competition unfold throughout the day, not being a special FX artist myself I found this really interesting.

The stalls were great! I loved Crown Brushes - I bought so much from here as you will see in my pictures! Other stand outs were HUB Makeup who had a huge range, Lashes on Line, Il Makiage (who I love but unfortuntely at $395for a palette are just too expensive!), and Ultimate Brush Roll.

I also had the opporutnity to listen to Donna Mee the queen of contouring, who has a really differnet approach to contouring - which I love and have been playing with! I found her talk very useful! I also listened to the end of Rae Morris' speech. (she overlapped with Donna Mee and I have seen Rae before)
Rae is such a great artist and I always feel inspired after seeing her work.

I also visited the MAC PRO store in Paddington as well as a few others. This was also great and was my first time here!

All in all I had a great time and look forward to doing it all again soon!

Take a look at some of the photos!

Feeling very tired after a huge day of makeup shopping!

Emma Hacks wallpaper body art. The first time she tried this it took 19hours! That's right the model stood in her house for that long!
She is a very talented artist!

The Beaver from the Kotex ad.
Looks freakishly real!

The arm from the beer ad where he steps away and his arm stays there...
This was AMAZING!
The closer you looked at the arm the more real it looked. There was even pigmentation in the deeper layers of the skin that you could see from the surface!
For some reason blogspot wont let me upload any more photos so I will post my purchases in another blog!

Sonya's Wedding 7/9/10

Last week I did hair and makeup for Sonya's wedding.

Sonya and fiance had planned a wedding back home in Tasmania, but it was all getting a bit out of hand. So they decided that while they were on holidays on the Gold Coast they would get married here! They had a small ceremony of 15 with family and close friends at Sanctuary Cove then dinner at Palazzon Versace.

Sonya and her two girls Chelsea and Holly were so sweet and I had a lovely time doing their hair and makeup for this very special day.

I just recieved this lovely email from Sonya this morning...

Hi Kate,

I just wanted to say a big thank you for my hair and makeup last Tuesday. It looked amazing! Thank you for being so accomodating with the girls, they were very excited and looked and felt like princessess after their hair was done. Also, a major thank you for helping my get into my dress. I have no idea what I would have done if you weren't there and I am so grateful.

Thank you so much.

Warm Regards Sonya.

All the best for a long and happy future!

What's in my Kit? - NARS Primer

I am forever being asked what products I use in my kit. In my opinion a good artist is someone who has a bit of everything. Something for every occasion - it also implies they have done the leg work to find the best of the best to give you the most satisfying results.

I myself have a lot of different products and brands in my kit, so I have decided over the next little while to show you 'What's in my Kit?'

Today I am starting with my favourite primer and it comes from NARS.

When I buy primer the main things I look for are...

  • Something that isn't too sticky. There is nothing worse than feeling like you are applying glue to your clients face.

  • Light weight. Primer shouldn't feel heavy under your makeup - it should feel like a light moisturiser

  • A light silicon base- the silicon ensures enough slip to allow the foundation to be easily applied on top of the primer. BUT it must not be too thick. (especially during the warmer months), as this will be too slippery and your foundation will slide off.

  • Oil free/semi mattifying. I don't want it to make your skin sweat.

  • Verstile. It needs to able to be used with a range of different foundation and not brand specific.

  • Smells good! Ok so this isn't at the top of my list but it's till important, no one wants a stinky face!

All of this considered I have ended up with the NARS primer. So far I haven't had any problems with this one. It glides on beautifully with a brush, sponge or clean hands, and works with both airbrush and traditional application.

So if you are looking for a new primer this would be my recommendation. It retails for around $95 which is a bit pricey for the day to day makeup bag, however it comes in a 51mL tube and using the recommended amount it should last a good few months.

I would love to hear which primer you use and why you like it!

So please comment below!

Mel's Wedding

Back on 12th June I did hair and makeup for Mel's wedding.

It was an early wedding, so meant an early start for me. The girls got ready in Q1 overlooking the beautiful Gold Coast - I got to watch the sunrise while I was at work! And it was amazing! The weather was perfect and from the pictures it seems everyone has a lovely day.

Mel has just sent me HEAPS of shots from their wedding of the hair and makeup, unfortuntely they can't all be on my website, so I have put a larger selection on here!

Thanks again for sending these through Mel!
